Der THIN LIZZY-Basser wurde am 20.08.1949 im Sandwell General Hospital geboren. Anfang der Siebziger gründete er THIN LIZZY und verstarb mit nur 36 Jahren an Herzversagen.
2005 wurde für ihn an der Dubliin's Grafton Street eine Bronzestatue enthüllt.
Gegenüber der Birmingham Mail sagte der ehemalige THIN LIZZY-Gitarrist Scott Gorham "Man, you don’t realise how quick the years have gone until someone reminds you that Phil would have been 60. He had such a huge impact on so many people around the world, I know he did with everyone that played in Thin Lizzy. To this day he is still missed by all of us."
